2/18/2017 0 Comments ilocos trip: day 01“We travel not to escape , but for life not to escape us” When I hear “Ilocos” what comes to my mind is that this is a home of well- preserved culture and vintage houses. Ilocos is a region in the Philippines located in northwest coast of Luzon island. We left Manila at 2300H and we arrived at 0600H so It took us 8 hours travel time from Manila to Ilocos Sur. The travel time depends on what time of the day you are travelling.During day time, tourists took max. of 12 hours travel time from Manila to Ilocos, so I prefer late night is the best travel time. We also just bought our snacks during our stopover. OUR ITINERARY: 2300H-0600H Travel Time (Quezon City,Manila to Ilocos Sur) 0600H-0700H (Breakfast) 1330H-1600H (Bantay watchtower) 1630H-1730H (empanadahan) 1730H- 1900 (Vigan tour, Calle Crisologo) 1900-2000H (DINNER) Tourist spots: Bantay Watchtower – The old historic belfry of the church known as the Bantay Tower, which served as a watchtower for pirates back in the Spanish colonial era, gave the town its name - bantay (meaning to guard). The restored façade is of Neo-Gothic design mixed with pseudo-Romanesque materials and elements. It is designed to be grandiose and reminiscent of Spanish architecture. It uses materials such as bricks and mud. Empanadahan is at Vigan, located just in the side of the plaza. You can see not only one empandahan but more than 5 stores.Emapanda is made to order so I’m completely sure it is well- served when it’s hot. Vigan Tour (Calle Crislogo) – So we decided to go here late in the afternoon because it’s nice to see the sunset theme of its street. Calle Crisologo street is a major attraction of Vigan because of the Spanish houses were the rich people lived during the Spanish era. Along the street are restaurants, souvenir shops, and cafes.
